UTEC and Purdue University to offer joint academic degree programs

With the purpose of continuously seeking academic excellence for the benefit of its students, the Universidad de Ingeniería & Tecnología (UTEC) has signed an agreement with the College of Technology of the prestigious Purdue University of the United States of America."Purdue is an internationally renowned university where many famous people have studied and taught, including several Nobel Prize winners and astronauts such as Neil Armstrong (Apollo 11) and the inventor of the wiki, Ward Cunningham. Now Purdue will be a strategic partner in educating new Peruvian engineers” explains Alberto Bejarano, Academic Director at the Universidad de Ingeniería & Tecnología (UTEC).Under this agreement, both institutions will develop a joint academic degree program that enables students from both universities to earn degrees granted by both academic institutions.  Thus, Purdue students will study courses in Peru to obtain a degree at UTEC, and UTEC students will do the same at Purdue."Purdue University has strategically identified its partners around the world in teaching applied research, industrial participation and globalization; on this occasion, we feel honored to work with UTEC, an academic institution integrated by people who have a vision of great potential in education. Cox, Dean of Globalization at Purdue University. As a part of this agreement, Purdue will have a permanent representative on UTEC’s Advisory Committee. This representative will be Dr. Donald Buskirk, who will occupy the position of Resident Director as of October 15th of this year.  The activities of the Office of the Resident Director from Purdue at UTEC will help to vitalize student and teacher exchange and joint research between these two academic institutions while guaranteeing students a global and multicultural education. Other benefitsIn addition, Purdue University professors will provide guidance to teachers and students over the course of their projects to enhance the development of new innovative and creative engineers with the capacity to build solutions for the challenges that humanity faces.  For this purpose, Purdue will send a professor each semester who has experience implementing engineering curricula and who will work together as a team with UTEC professors in designing active learning sessions and projects which will ensure the development of the necessary skills in order for alumni to have a successful career. The agreement also features the academic development of UTEC teachers, who will take courses at Purdue University, actively cooperate with North American teachers, and learn teaching methods to apply in Peru.It is worth mentioning that currently there are 20 Peruvian students studying full time on Purdue University’s campus, enrolled in various degree programs offered by this American university, and we hope that this number increases with agreement. About PurduePurdue University is one of the foremost research universities in the world.  It has an enrollment of over 39,000 students, 22% of whom are foreign students.
