UTEC students train to program the first NAO Robots in Peru

In an effort to provide the best training and study tools for its students, La Universidad de Ingeniería & Tecnología (UTEC) has recently acquired two NAO Robots.These humanoid robots, manufactured by French company Aldebaran Robotics, are the first to arrive to Peru and will serve as the subject of study for students, who will learn how to program them and give them instructions by way of commands for them to perform a variety of activities, such as daily tasks.NAO Robots are 58 centimeters tall and weigh 4.3 kg. They come with two cameras and four built-in microphones; they are also equipped with tactile and infrared sensors along with a WiFi connection capability with 1 GB of flash memory, and other features that make them friendly."“Currently, 300 universities in 13 countries have these robots for research and study; now two of them are at UTEC, so that students have the opportunity to learn how to program them and put the science knowledge they have acquired into practice”, states Juan Carlos Bueno, professor of programming at UTEC.NAO Robots can interact with their owner through the evolution of behaviors and functionalities. They can control electrical appliances such as a television set. Currently, their utility is applied in the fields of research, psychology (to interact with children), industries, and at home.
