UTEC successfully completes its first academic year and announces news for 2013

During a corporate breakfast meeting attended by university board members, authorities and representatives of several Lima area high schools, Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología (UTEC) concluded its academic year by highlighting the main achievements attained in its first year of operations, and offering some new announcements for 2013.At the event, board member Juan Incháustegui mentioned the importance of having a specialized academic institution that meets the needs of the job market. Oscar Espinosa, CEO of Ferreyros S.A.A and UTEC member of the board, emphasized the commitment of important companies that support this project because it meets the international academic standards required to become positioned at the forefront of the academic world.Moreover, the Academic Director, Alberto Bejarano, announced that construction of the new campus in Barranco will commence during 2013, a project that seeks to set a milestone in Peruvian architecture in light of its design, which won the Silver Lion award at the 13th edition of the Architecture Biennale in Venice. He also highlighted the excellent level of the Faculty and solid team of researchers that form part of UTEC, who have PhD level studies and who have been winning recognition for a variety of their scientific work, and the board of directors which has personalities among its members such as Kim Vandiver, Dean of the College of Engineering of the renowned MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).Improved service will be offered to UTEC applicants and student education will be enhancedAs a result of an agreement with CST (Career and Skills Testing) services directed at high schools, UTEC will assess and measure the skills, interests, and abilities that will allow easier identification of the most suitable academic program(s) to fit students’ profiles. In addition, they will implement the “Techlabs”, specially designed laboratories that enable young students to interact with technology, become connected with it and learn to take technology as an ally in their lives. Finally, an announcement was made of a visit to UTEC by a delegation of officials from Harvard University to become acquainted with this institution and evaluate the potential for reciprocal cooperation.
