On September 3rd, we received the visit of Frank Doyle, Dean of the John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), and Susan Lyons, Director of International Advancement for Latin America at Harvard University, strategic partner of UTEC since 2014.
During the visit, Dean Doyle had a chance to get to know our campus and main laboratories along with Enrique Stiglich, Director of Administration and Finance; Ignacio Montero, Director of Corporate Relations and Patricia Céspedes, Head of Internationalization. In addition, meetings were held with UTEC researchers to present the progress and results of the main joint research projects with Harvard as a result of the UTEC - Harvard Seed Fund Joint Research Projects program.
On the other hand, results from the the UTEC – Harvard Students Collaborative Program were presented, a program which is developed jointly with SEAS Harvard since 2014 and that provides students of both universities with a unique academic, intercultural and social experience, working in diverse environments to solve jointly some of the most pressing global challenges. This year, the program received an award from Fund 10,000 Strong of Americas through a fund sponsored by United States Department, Partners of the Americas and NAFSA: Association of International Educators, which has allowed the students of Harvard UTEC and the National University Amazónica de Madre de Dios, build, implement and test a prototype on a real scale that will have a direct and significant impact on rural communities in Madre de Dios and other cities.
This is the first time Dr. Doyle has visited Peru and UTEC, after he assumed the Dean of the SEAS School of Engineering and Applied Sciences in July 2015 and is a milestone for the development of new academic initiatives in favor of our college’s community and the communities of Peru with which we get involved.
