As part of the organization of the project on Thermal Insulation for Housing in the Andean Highlands, a group of 6 students from Universidad de Ingeniería & Tecnología (UTEC) visited the facilities of D-Lab (MIT), located in Cambridge, Massachusetts (EEUU).What did they do during their stay? They received training in social engineering project development and attended a course in User Research that teaches how to understand user behaviors, needs and motivation through the use of observation techniques and feedback methods. They also attended classes at the D-Lab: Energy, during which they gave project presentations to give other students from the university a chance to work together with MIT students. The highpoint was the acceptance of 2 projects that will be carried out in March and April in Sayancancha (Peru). It is worth noting that all of their interaction, our students were able to understand and apply the study, independent learning, teaching and project development methods promoted by MIT, the top rated university in the world. Meanwhile, the students had the chance to listen to lectures on Industrial Biosafety and Hygiene at the Environmental Health and Safety Office and visit the nuclear reactor in MIT’s research center. The majority of aspects about the science of neutrons and engineering, including nuclear medicine are studied at this center. They also received classes in personal safety and electric arc welding.Prof. Kim Vandiver, Dean for Undergraduate Research, and to Victor Grau Serrat, Director of D - Lab, who expressed their satisfaction with same. Specifically, the technical results of thermal conductivity were presented to Professor Leslie Norford, of the Mechanical Engineering Department, who showed a great deal of interest learning more about their upcoming work. Finally, a network of cooperation in the development of research projects in the area of Social Engineering was created. This will enable us to strengthen the institutional relationships between D-Lab (MIT) y UTEC.
