IBM and UTEC executed their first joint project to benefit Electronic Engineering eight semester students. Thanks to this agreement, the 15 students that took the “ECE subjects: Introduction to Cognitive computing” class that was given by professor Jaime Farfán, were able to use both IBM Cloud services and software for the developing of artificial intelligence using applications. This initiative is part of the IBM Academic Initiative, exclusively destined for educational institutions.
This joint work allowed the students to get access to the IBM Cloud open based standards to build, execute and manage applications, and also to use artificial intelligence functions such as conversation and facial recognition. This way, students were able to focus in developing software for the student community with flexible computing options, DevOps tools, Data Analytics and IOT among others.
“At UTEC we seek that our student can get strong foundations that will allow them to lead creative and automatization projects, and also prepare them to face current and future professional challenges. IBM technology has allowed them to be one step ahead in the creation of effective solutions to real world problems” said Victor Murray PhD, Head of UTEC’s Electronic Engineering program.
What was taught inside the classroom was also complemented by IBM online international digital certifications in subjects such as cloud computing and chatbots.
“We are pleased to see the excellent results of this first joint working experience where UTEC students have gotten the chance to mix creativity and technical knowledge to write cognitive intelligence software. UTEC has been a great strategic ally in our commitment with the use of disruptive technology and the development of academic abilities among science, technology and engineering students.”, commented Juan Carlos Zevallos, IBM Peru’s Cloud unit manager
We must also mention that IBM Cloud solutions provide an added value by being the only platform with over 200 ready to use APIs, including Watson artificial intelligence capacities.
Due to the good results obtained by both UTEC and IBM, and in line with the new technological trends, we hope to continue this collaboration while promoting our “Introduction to Cloud Computing” class. This class will be mandatory for all students of the Computer Engineering related programs and optional to the rest of the students. That way they can all get a deep understanding of artificial intelligence technology through a special focus on the characteristics and options that IBM Watson has to offer
Carreras en ingeniería y tecnología que van de la mano con la investigación y la creación de soluciones tecnológicas de vanguardia, comprometidas con las necesidades sociales y la sostenibilidad.
