UTEC Barranco now a home for our students’ ingenuity

Having started classes at the Barranco campus last April 6th, students are already able to make use of the modern laboratories, equipped with the latest technology, such as the Physics and Chemistry laboratories and those dedicated to Drafting and Design. 

As you already know, the Barranco campus will have an Objet 30 3D printer that prints resin for prototyping in a material similar to a high temperature resistant polypropylene. Another example is that of modules referred to as a Programmable System on a Chip (PSoC), which will be used in courses discussing Microprocessors and Microcontrollers.  These are cutting edge systems which enable one to program tiny computers “to suit customer preferences” in a single component, with tremendous flexibility, since they are configured in whatever way one wants and in line with the needs of the project, and in a very advanced fashion. 

It is also important to note that the complex training system for the generation, transmission, distribution and management of electric energy, referred to as Electrical Power Engineering, Smart Grid Trainers that has measurement systems containing a series of communication and control interfaces. These can be employed to perform advanced research work within the laboratory and in virtual formats on the internet.   

This way, these students now have the appropriate environments and tools to optimally develop their ingenuity in any of our Engineering programs: Industrial, Electronic, Mechanical, Industrial Chemistry and Energy.

The new university campus has been designed with the most modern aspects in mind for advanced education, in a pleasant environment equipped with cutting edge technology to educate and train the best engineers of Peru and, why not, the world” said Eduardo Hochschild, founder of Universidad de Ingeniería & Tecnología (UTEC). 

It is worth recalling the fact that the campus design won the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture in 2012, one of the most distinguished awards in contemporary architecture.  Moreover, the campus has a very pleasant environment and atmosphere so that students are able to enjoy every one of its spaces and optimize their university education. The campus has a 10 story building containing classrooms, a variety of academic and administrative areas, laboratories and workshops, a large dining room and an auditorium – theater with a capacity of 300 people.  

“What captured my interest to study at this University is all that they have to offer in the way of inter-institutional agreements with Harvard and MIT and other reputable universities abroad.  In addition, the shape of the university campus itself attracted me. It is quite impressive and when I look at it I see a university that is filled with promise for the future.  I am excited and I intend to put all of my best efforts into it”, said Fernando Morales, UTEC Industrial Engineering student.
