We gave them a challenge and they came up with a versatile and very good solution. In 2017, UTEC held it’s second yearly “Disrupton”, a contest which main objective is to inspire our students and have them work towards finding innovative solutions for a specific issue. The challenge must be met within 24 hours. On this second edition of the contest we asked them to create a studying area within the campus.
Under the “Shaping your own space” work slogan, we asked the students to present proposal based on the room of their dreams. Our students came up with a modular furniture design putting special attention to the versatility of its use and the optimization of common use areas in education institutions.
UTEC students Emilio Paredes Solis (Electronic Engineering), Edward López Gerónimo (Mechanical Engineering), Ichiro Macedo (Industrial Engineering) and Danilo Delgado Motta (Industrial Engineering) joined forces with Allinson Busi Carrillo and Ornela Geldres, guest students from the Product Design program at Toulouse Lautrec, to create the ITM (Imagine To Make) furniture. These pieces can be used as tables, seats or resting furniture and they were all designed using a digital 3D software.
“It was really interesting and motivating to be able to apply my technology knowledge to matters of production and design”
Edward Lopez Gerónimo - Mechanical Engineering - 5th semester
“It was really motivating to work as a team and to achieve this furniture designs”
Emilio Paredes Solis - Electronic Engineering - 7th semester
If you are already a part of Utec come see the “Disrupton” winning furniture, they are at information center’s terrace, on the 10th floor!
