By studying Mechatronics Engineering at the Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología you will acquire the tools you need to revolutionize an industry by innovating its production processes. UTEC’s mechatronics engineers have the ability to lead teams to develop and implement mechanical systems that can speed up the assembly or production activities that are performed within a company. Study Mechatronics Engineering at the Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología UTEC and we will lead your studies with a holistic approach, through active learning and the development of projects since the very first semesters. We will also provide you with a global overview through our international agreements.
GEORGE DEVOL
the inventor of the first
INDUSTRIALROBOT
INSPIRATIONAL PEOPLE
Mechatronics Engineering
Devol was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He was interested from boyhood in all things ENGINEERING.
He helped construct some buildings at Riordan Prep and run the school's electric light plant.
looking for a flexible and adaptable machine, he created a programmed manipulator.
he founded
CINEPHONE UNITED CORPORATION, to develop recording technology for movies, electric and photoelectric controls, switches and timers. During World War II he organized General Electronics, producing counter-radar devices.
Although he didn’t attend college he was a tinkerer who read everything he could about electronics and mechanics.
Devol applied for a patent on Programmed Article Transfer that introduced the concept of Universal Automation or Unimation. (It was issued in 1961).

ROBOT
(Universal Automation),
was sold to
General Motors, Kawasaki, Ford, among others.
His creation serves as a basis for the development of new robotic systems used for manufacturing.
His invention is currently used in assembly and welding lines and material displacement.
Devol is considered one of the men who
